African Day 2023 in Indonesia

Theme: The Acceleration of AFCFTA implementation.

The African continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) is a trade agreement that aims to further the continent's economic integration by establishing a single market for products and services.

Africa Day is intended to celebrate and acknowledge the successes of the Organization of African Unity (OAU now AU) from its creation on May 25, 1963, in the fight against colonialism and apartheid. This year’s celebration will also help people reminisce about how far people have come since the formation of OAU. The rich history, strategic alliance and overall progress of Africa will surely be celebrated on Africa Day 2023. People are sure also to take this chance to map and discuss routes needed for the betterment of Africa.

The Africans in Indonesia joined in the celebration of the Africa day 2023 on the 29th may 2023. The dean of the African Ambassadors in Indonesia, Mr Abderahman Drissi Alami - Ambassador of Morocco to Indonesia. while delivering his keynote address said that the African Union (AU) has chosen "Acceleration of (AfCFTA) implementation" as it's theme for 2023. The AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area) is an ambitious trade pact aimed at creating a single market for goods and services of almost 1.3 billiob people across Africa and deepening the economic integration of the continent.

The ambassador of the Nigeria to Indonesia Dr. Usman A. Ogah while briefing the press said that trade integration across Africa has long been limited by outdated infrastructure and differing regulations across dozens of markets. when fully implemented, the AfCFTA will be the world's biggest largest free trade area, with a combined gross domestic product of around $3.4 trillion.

The president of Nigerian Community In Indonesia (NCII) High Chief Felix E. Okolie (Omeogo) also said that the AfCFTA is projected not only to lead to job creation, poverty alleviation, improved welfare and sustainable development but also to ensure inclussivity for women and youth, development of small and medium enterprise (SMEs) and overall industrializationof the continent. he also seek for the collabration and peaceful coperation of the host country.

The event were attended by the different Ambassadors of African nations to Indonesia and the diplomatic corps, the representatives of the Indonesian government and the international communities of African decent. The executives members of Nigerian communities were also present. Mr. Felix Ituoye, Mr. Fin Opara, Chief Nicholas Amanchukwu, Mr. Dan Nwaizugbo and MR. Chinedu Onwubuche.
